How to get noticed on Google? A simple guide for the less internet savvy
Such is the growing importance of the Internet, here is a common question that is presented for me to consider:
“How Do I Get My Business Noticed On Google?”
This is a question I get a lot from business owners who have little or no experience of marketing and advertising.
This short article is intended to give some useful insight to those with less marketing experience and prowess.
- The basic but important part
The best and perhaps most obvious way of getting your presence on the Internet noticed is building a website and letting Google know the website is online.
Here is the good news. Gone are the days when you needed to spend vast sums of money on print media, television broadcast or press releases.
Nowadays, with a little bit of your own research, or perhaps engaging a savvy Internet Marketer to work for you, the adoption of several simple tactics can help to ensure you get noticed by Google.
One of the most cost effective ways of marketing your company is through social media campaigns, writing articles or blogging.
- The importance of content creation
One of the most challenging aspects of internet marketing is that of generating quality content. As a starting point, your content needs to be engaging, accurate, interesting, sharable and easily readable.
If you can master the skill of creating content that resonates, with a little bit of discipline, you should easily command the type of attention your website needs.
You must never forget that the primary objective of having an online presence is to ensure your content (and your website) gets spotted and visited by online users.
- Try to make your content sharable
Whatever the format of your content might be (e.g. video, audio, text images, e-books) the message sits beneath the body of your content needs to trigger feelings of value as people consume it.
Your content needs to have the effect of informing, educating or entertaining those who read it. If your content is interesting and motivating, it is likely that users will share it.
A combination of videos, images, text, and mixed media can be used to generate content. Ideally, this content needs to be generated every day or at least every couple of days.
This attitude towards regular production can help to ensure your followers gain a feel for the type and style of content that you are likely to publish. Your followers will then look out for your fresh content.
- Content optimization
With the confidence of good content, through a carefully constructed network of social media accounts, various listing sites, forums and self-issue press release sites, you should easily get your content noticed.
Search engine optimization (or what is commonly labelled as SEO for short) is best described as a technique of encouraging Google to rank your website in the higher place rankings or Google search list. This is a very big subject to explain in this short article and novices should seek professional advice before pursuing the more detailed and costly activity.
Stated in simple terms, if you own a product website, your objective is to ensure that every time a user searches for information on the products or services in your range, your website shows up on the top of the list. You need to ensure that your website gets listed in the natural searches, as opposed to the paid searches.
Research shows that many website users rarely search beyond the second page of the Google search results.
- Meta tags and the HTML code
A practice called meta tagging has been used for a long time.
Website owners who want Google to crawl into their websites tend to use meta tags in the HTML code of their website. These meta tags are words and phrases that are etched into this code that only Google can see. It is not easily visible to online users. You can also use keywords in meta tags, so Google knows the relevance of content on your website.
- Measurement Tools
All internet marketing activity should be measured to prevent ongoing waste of time and money. There are many tools that you can use for measurement. For instance, on a basic level, you can use something called Google Analytics and other Google Webmaster tools to look at the performance of each page on your website. This gives you strong indications of how you can make your website more search friendly and so more visible to online users looking for content that is relevant to what you do.
- Create ads on Facebook and other social media sites
Advertising on Facebook has become very popular. It is one of less expensive options and it can be effective if you follow a disciplined formula.
With Facebook Advertising, you can choose your target audience through their Advertising Desktop. The targeting options are very detailed. You can target people in terms of: location, age, genre and declared interests. You can even include the timeline in which you wish to let Facebook users view your adverts.
Other social media platforms can be used for advertising. Twitter, You Tube and Linked In all have options for paid advertising options.
The same discipline of relevance always comes into play. You need to produce content that research shows people have a definite interest in reading about.
